Doing the Most: Family, Music, and Learning in the Chaos of Everyday Life

If you’ve ever wondered how much one person can pack into a single day, welcome to my life. I’m a single dad of six—yes, six—school-age and younger kids. My daily grind starts before dawn and doesn’t stop until long after sunset, balancing work, family, and my creative passions: making music and creating videos for my YouTube channel.

Here’s a look at one of my typical days—a chaotic, rewarding ride from start to finish.

3:15 AM – It’s Go Time

My alarm jolts me awake while the rest of the world sleeps. By 3:30, I’m dressed, caffeinated, and on the road, ready for my day job as a shuttle bus driver on a city contract. Driving through the quiet, early-morning streets gives me time to think about the day ahead.

Will I have time to finish that beat? What’s for dinner? How many snacks will the kids need today? These are the thoughts swirling in my head as I shuttle passengers to their destinations.

2:40-3:00 PM – Clocking Out and Switching Gears

After nearly 12 hours of work, I’m clocking out, but the day is far from over. The moment I park the shuttle, I’m shifting gears—mentally prepping for dad duty.

3:15 PM – The Afternoon Circus

By now, I’m picking the kids up from school. The energy levels are off the charts, and the house becomes a noisy mix of homework battles, snack demands, and sibling squabbles. My kitchen transforms into a homework station—multiplication on one side, spelling practice on the other.

Thankfully, I’m not always doing this alone. My ex-wife, who has been a consistent presence in my kids’ lives, steps in to help on some days. Whether it’s picking up the younger ones, running errands, or just giving me a moment to breathe, her assistance keeps me from feeling completely overwhelmed. Even though we’re not together anymore, our shared goal of supporting the kids brings us together when it matters.

7:30 PM – Creative Hours Begin

Once the kids are tucked into bed, it’s finally my time. I retreat to my little creative corner—a small room with a desk, my laptop, a keyboard, headphones, and a microphone. This is where the magic happens.

With the house quiet, I put on my headphones and dive in. Whether I’m laying down a new melody, editing a track, or filming and refining content for my YouTube channel, this space is where I get to dream and create. It’s not fancy, but it’s mine, and every session feels like a step closer to building the life I envision.

Why I Keep Going

Balancing work, family, and dreams isn’t easy, but it’s worth it. I want my kids to see that chasing your passions is possible, no matter how hectic life gets. I also appreciate the moments when teamwork—whether from my ex-wife or my own kids pitching in—makes the journey a little easier.

Lessons from the Chaos

Here’s what keeps me grounded in this busy life:

  1. Make the most of every moment. Whether it’s a quiet drive or a late-night session, time is precious.
  2. Embrace imperfection. Not every day will be perfect, and that’s okay.
  3. Teamwork makes a difference. Whether it’s co-parenting or leaning on others, you don’t have to do it alone.
  4. Family fuels the grind. My kids are my biggest inspiration to keep pushing forward.

So, to all the parents, young adults, and dreamers out there—you’ve got this. Keep doing the most, because every small step matters. And if you ever need a beat to keep you motivated, check out my YouTube channel, Spade Decade.
